SAMMY, the sweet feral quaker (7-8 mos old when he came in) sure missed his buddy, Peek-a-boo (pictured above) but has since made good friends with Bandit, a feral, adult nanday conure.  Bandit will never be a cuddly bird, but has good manners and will step up consistently.  Ideally, we’d like to see Sammy and Bandit go to a home together, but be caged separately.  Both birds need to have time spent with them daily to keep them tamed and sweet.  (Will separate for good homes that have other similar sized birds.)

STEPS FOR ADOPTION

1. Join our Bird Alert e-mail list to learn what birds are available for adoption.  Send requests to rescue@fwcas.org

2. Complete a five page application (available at: http://www.klhinc.com/FWCAS.htm) and either mail it to our PO Box or fax it to 941-379-4136.  Review our contract first to be sure you agree to our terms.

3. If the application is approved, a home visit will take place to ensure the bird will be placed into a safe and healthy environment.  There is a $ 10.00 home visit fee to cover gas.

4. If you pass the home visit, it’s time to meet the bird(s). If the bird is being fostered in the rescue, you can phone us to make an appointment.  If the bird is being fostered elsewhere, you will be contacted by the foster parent to arrange a meeting.  Several visits may be necessary to form a bond with the bird.

5. If a match is made (you like the bird and the bird likes you,) the bird should be tested by an avian vet before moving in with you.  Once the bird’s health is confirmed, the contract is signed, and the bird moves into your home.

6. Another home visit will be scheduled after the bird has had time to settle in.  Additional visits may occur on an as-needed basis.

Krissy and Paulie are a Brother and sister pair.  They

cannot be bred, but our vet has recommended that they

stay together, though in separate cages.  Paulie is shy with

strangers, but once he gets to know you, is a real doll.

He’s a good eater—loves his veggies!  And is fascinated with

the rescue budgies and loves to watch them.  Krissy is skittish and cage aggressive, but will step up  on a perch from her cage.  Away from the cage, she’ll step onto your hand and let you stroke her feet. Both had medical issues when they came in and will need someone who can afford regular vet care.  Krissy is on a special diet of pellets, sprouts and lots of veggies!
